Carla was born on August 31, 1948, to Charles and Joyce Johson in Breckenridge, Texas. She attended Breckenridge High School and was a member of the Buckaroo Band. After she graduated high school, Carla attended the Abilene Business School where she completed the bookkeeping program. Carla worked in the banking and bookkeeping industry her entire career.
Carla met the love of her life, William (Butch) Halpayne in 1971. They were married on August 7, 1971, at Shelton Avenue Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Texas and were long-time residents of Abilene. Butch and Carla were blessed with two children, Chris Halpayne and Ginger Halpayne Bennight. Carla was a devoted mother and loved her family very much. She especially loved her grandchildren. She was very proud to be Mimi to them. Carla was a member of Meadow Oaks Baptist Church in Temple and was very active in their numerous ministries. Carla loved the Lord and was not afraid to share her faith. Even as Alzheimer’s began to take her memory, she was able to quote Scripture and sing traditional hymns by memory. Carla always had the ability to make those around her feel loved and encouraged.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Joyce Johnson and her husband William (Butch) Halpayne. Survivors include her sister Caren Johnson McGinnis of Harker Heights, her son Chris of Belton, Ginger and her husband Larry of Rogers, and five grandchildren Cody and Randy Bennight of Rogers, Cort Bethel of Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Ziva and Daxx Halpayne of Belton; as well as three nephews. Carla’s family would like to thank the staff at the Dementia Enrichment Day Center of Belton who provided many fun activities for her these last few months. She was always excited to go and see her friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Promise in Temple, TX or Helping Hands in Belton, TX in honor of Carla Halpayne.
