With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Johnny Mac Humphrey, a man known for his strength, humor, and larger-than-life spirit. Johnny left this world on June 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, resilience, and unforgettable memories.
Born to Ernestine and Gene Humphrey, both of whom preceded him in death, Johnny was a proud son who lived his life guided by integrity and service. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, and later found his calling as a truck driver, embracing the open road with dedication and a spirit of adventure.
Johnny wore many hats throughout his life: brother, husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, and loyal friend. His first marriage to Jackie Smith brought two sons, David and Robert. He later married Janett Ann Duncan, with whom he welcomed his daughter, Melissa.
He is survived by his children: David Humphrey, who mourns the recent loss of his husband Stephen Folks, Robert Humphrey, and Melissa Humphrey, who shares her life with her husband Jason Murphy and daughter Dayne.
Johnny took great pride in being a grandfather to Dayne Anne Murphy, whose presence brought him joy and pride beyond measure. Johnny is also survived by Colby Humphrey, his beloved nephew, who is embraced by Johnny and his family and raised as one of his own.
Later in life, Johnny was blessed to find love again when he met and married Lucy Humphrey, his devoted and loving wife who survives him. Their bond brought renewed joy and companionship, and through their union, Johnny warmly embraced Lucy’s children as his own: Eduardo (Ed) Gonzalez and his wife Carissa Morin, Daisy Gonzalez, and Sandra Gonzalez who preceded him in death.
Those who knew Johnny knew he was truly one of a kind. He had a legendary sense of humor that could light up any room, and a steady, quiet strength that grounded those around him. A born storyteller, Johnny Mac could make you laugh until you cried—and was always cherished for his huge smile and jovial and kind heart.
Johnny leaves behind not only his immediate family but also his beloved sister Donnie, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever hold his memory close. He was deeply loved by all who had the good fortune to know him, and his presence enriched the lives of many.
A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 18 with a viewing from 4 pm– 7pm, with a funeral and burial service taking place at Dossman Funeral Home, 2525 North Main Street, Belton, TX 76513 on Thursday, June 19 at 10:30 am.
