Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Laurel Deane Leatherwood, born on March 14, 1940, in Troy, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, in Belton, Texas. In loving memory of Laurel, friends and family are invited to attend a viewing at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas, on May 22, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will follow on May 23, 2025, at Roberts Cemetery in Troy, Texas, starting at 2:00 PM.
Laurel’s love and dedication to her husband was solidified on December 19, 1958 in Belton, TX. An unwavering marriage of 66 years that was filled with a lifetime of memories to be cherished. As a mother Laurel was always present for her children present at all life events particularly their sporting events and accomplishments which she happily carried on with her grandchildren. Laurel loved to travel with her husband Wayne, had an intense love for wildlife and the outdoors, loved to cook homemade meals and had a great love for coffee, pepsi and a good hamburger. Laurel's professional journey culminated in a notable 21 years of service at Scott and White Memorial Hospital, where she made lasting contributions to the lives of many. Laurel will be remembered by loved ones as a selfless, loving, wise and nurturing woman.
Laurel’s commitment to her family was steadfast. Her love was tender, filled with warmth and pride. In her eyes her family was always cherished, always enough and forever loved. The love extended far beyond her 6 children onto her 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren who filled her heart with overwhelming joy.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Laurel is remembered fondly by her surviving family. She is survived by her husband, Dillard Wayne Leatherwood; her sons, Don Sparks, Darren Leatherwood and wife Gina, Harvey Leatherwood and wife Kim, and Larry Leatherwood; and her daughter, Rusty Carlene Ard and husband Joe, as well as one brother Larry Stewart. Laurel is preceded in death by her Parents Louis and Edith Stewart, brother Carlos Stewart, and one son Coy Leatherwood.
Laurel will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
