Mr. Wilson passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at his home in Belton, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 16, 1962, in Tacoma, Washington, Michael was the son of Vano Terrell Willson and Patsy (Patty) Everett. He was raised in Houston yet maintained deep roots in the Waco area. A proud 1980 graduate of Bellaire High School in Houston, he went on to attend the University of Texas and Texas A&M before earning his degree from Southwest Texas University.
On July 27, 1996, Michael married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Libby” Smith, at St. Luke’s on the Lake Episcopal Church in Austin. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership of more than 29 years.
A respected land developer, Michael enjoyed a distinguished career with several civil engineering firms in Austin. He served the community with distinction on the City of Austin’s Water and Wastewater Commission and the Environmental Board. He later founded Central Texas Development Assessments, helping private developers successfully navigate the complexities of Austin’s regulatory environment.
After relocating with his family to Belton in 2022, he continued his work in land development with D.R. Horton.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman and passionate hunter who cherished many memorable seasons on his longtime lease near Palo Duro Canyon. A lifelong Houston Astros fan, he also lived a life of deep and abiding faith, most recently as a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Smith Wilson; his son, Nolan Wilson; and his daughter, Juliana Wilson. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve Wilson and wife Michelle, and Brian Wilson and wife Melissa; his sister, Karen Wilson; brother-in-law Granger Smith and wife Lisa; sister-in-law Jean Radtke and husband Glen; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, including Thomas Smith, Alison Smith and husband J.B. Hewell, Alexandra Radtke and husband John Lawler, Glenda Radtke, Ryan Wilson, Ashlyn Wilson, Zach Wilson, Hal Lawler, and Jean Lawler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made with a check payable to: Fairmont Missionary Baptist Church (“Mike's hunting season church”), 394 FM 1065, Flomot, Texas 79234. Please note on your check “Mike Wilson Memorial” in memo line. No electronic donations can be accepted at this time.
