Robert “Bob” Dan Babcock Sr. CSM USA (ret.) of Belton, Texas passed away at his home on October 4th, 2025.

Funeral service will be at 2pm on Thursday October 9th, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home, Burial with Full Military Honors to follow at North Belton, Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5pm till 7pm on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at Dossman Funeral Home.

Bob was born October 14th, 1935, in Lansing, Michigan to Grant L. and Stella M. Babcock.

Bob attended Grand Ledge High School, where he lettered in football, baseball, track, and was Team Captain for a State Champion Baseball team. He was also selected to a Michigan State American Legion Team in which he played at Briggs Stadium in Detroit, Michigan, Cleveland Stadium and Yankee Stadium.

Bob joined the Army and went to Korea in 1952 and was part of the 16th Recon Company, 7th Cavalry Regiment (Gary Owen) 1st Cavalry Division. He was discharged in 1956 and then went to Michigan State College and decided to re-enter the Army in 1959. His military schools included: IPM (Interrogation of Prisoner of War), Infantry Ranger School (at Fort Benning, GA, and Non-commissioned Officer Academy (at Fort Hood, TX). He completed two tours to Korea, three combat tours to Vietnam, and several overseas tour to places such as Germany and HQ’s Land I Southeast Imir Turkey. He also served as the Infantry School CSM and CSM of all US Forces in the Middle East.

His military awards include two Meritorious Service Awards, a Joint Service Commendation, and numerous others.

While in Vietnam, he met his wife of 53 years Thach To. They had three children. CSM Babcock retired from the Army at Fort Hood in 1979 with over 26 years of active service and remained in the Lake Belton area. He owned and operated Veterans Real Estate from 1991-2012. Bob was an avid sportsman and bass fished with the Temple Bass Club, Phantom Bass Club, American Bass Anglers, and Military Bass Club. He was also one of the founding directors of the Lucky Strike Bass Club of Killeen. He was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited and founded the C/R 393 Waterfowl Hunting Club in El Campo, TX. For over 30 years he served on the board of directors at 439 Water Supply Corp.

Bob also truly loved baseball. Dedicated to his father, he built a regulation baseball field, “Grant Field”, at his residence in Belton, TX, for his grandsons. He spent countless hours maintaining and doing upkeep of it to provide his grandson’s teams a safe, respectable place for them to practice.

Bob is survived by his wife Thach, sons Ben (spouse Travis of Southlake, TX) and Bobby (spouse Tami of Belton, TX), daughter Beckie (spouse John Paul Taylor of Belton, TX), and his eight grandchildren: Cooper, Sam, Owen, Braxton, Collin, Harrison, Audrey, and Aviana.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Grant and Stella Babcock, brother Dr. William Babcock, sister Susie Bergman, and son Dan Babcock.
