Robert Joseph Johnson

March 16, 1965 — April 12, 2026

Robert Joseph Johnson, 61, of Temple, Texas, passed away on April 12, 2026. RJ was born on March 16, 1965, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Richard Carl Johnson and Leona Ruth (Wise) Johnson. He grew up in Bondurant and graduated from Marshalltown.

In 1989, RJ answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army and serving with distinction as a mechanic. His commitment to excellence was recognized through the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge, RJ continued his craft as a civilian contractor mechanic at Fort Hood, Texas, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.

RJ was a man of warm spirit and easy laughter who had a gift for making people feel welcome in his presence. In his leisure time, he found joy in the hunt — whether scanning fields with his metal detector or carefully adding to a prized coin collection. Both hobbies spoke to his patient, curious nature and his deep appreciation for the stories hidden in everyday things.

RJ is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Johnson; his children, Cody (Nikki) Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Jessica (Hunter) Jost, Julia Jost, Tara (Keith) Hetchler, and Sandra (Henry) Rowe; his siblings, Jim Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Diane (Brian) Peter; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Carl Johnson and Leona Ruth Johnson, and by Kelly Irene Johnson.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Arrangements are entrusted to Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas.
