Sharon Irene Souter, 72, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2025, in her hometown of Belton, TX. Her memorial service will be on September 23, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church, Belton.

Sharon was born on February 27, 1953, to her parents, J.C. and Irene Shahan, in Oklahoma City, OK. She married Lonny Souter on July 20, 1979. They were married for 46 years and enjoyed many different adventures throughout the years. They shared a love of sports and anything Oklahoma.

Sharon grew up in Oklahoma and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University. She loved all aspects of nursing, especially the ability to help people. She served as the source of medical advice for all her friends and family. Moreover, she was always ready and willing to render aid when needed: on a sports field, on an airplane, or at church functions.

Sharon went on to graduate with a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at San Antonino. She was a life-long learner and loved being a teacher and educator. She loved her students and would do anything to help them succeed. She held several professor and director positions over the years and retired from the Dean of Nursing position at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. Sharon was a proud Nana and spent a lot of time supporting her grandkids. She and Lonny made numerous road trips, sometimes multiple trips in a day. She would always have something fun planned for the grandkids during the holidays and always had a project for them to do at Christmas. She also enjoyed going on trips with friends, completing puzzles, serving the church, and singing about Jesus.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jimmy. She is survived by her husband Lonny, her brother Ronnie Shahan of Oklahoma City, a son, Zach Souter and wife Suzi of Hobbs, New Mexico, a daughter Hope McNeil, and husband Brian of Rosenberg, Texas, three granddaughters, a grandson, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Amedisys Hospice Care for the service and attention she received. Additionally, the family is very grateful for the guidance and care provided by Glen and Katherine Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Missions Fund at First Baptist Church – Belton, TX.
