Terry Taggart

Terry Taggart, 74, of Belton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at a Belton Care Facility.

Funeral services for Terry will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Belton First United Methodist with Pastor Patrick Hoffman officiating. Burial will be private.

Terry was born on September 13, 1951, in Belton to the late Hugh Lewis and Jonnell (Whitley) Taggart. She grew up in Belton and graduated from Belton High School in 1970 where she was a proud member of the Belton Marching 100. After high school, Ms. Taggart received her bachelor’s degree in education from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1974. She received her Master of Education Degree in 1978 from Baylor University. Terry began her career with Belton ISD in 1974 as a 5th Grade reading teacher, and she would continue that education career for the next 41 years, retiring in 2015. Ms. Taggart was a lifelong member at the Belton First United Methodist Church in Belton where she was a member of the Kitchen Sunday School Class as well as the choir for over 50 years.

Ms. Taggart was preceded in death by her parents; sister Tenny Swonke, and brother Jeff Taggart, Sr. She is survived by her brothers Jay Taggart and his wife Leah, and John Taggart and his wife Dora, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following: Belton First United Methodist Church, 205 E. 3rd, Belton, Texas 76513 or to th Belton Education Fund (BEF), 400 N. Wall, Belton, Texas 76513.

A visitation will take place at the church immediately following the funeral service on Monday.
