Richard Wayne Jackson, or Wayne as he was known, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at a Temple care facility. He was 90 years old.
Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Miller Heights Baptist Church in Belton with Rev. Justin Childers officiating. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery in Belton.
Wayne was born near Cedar Valley in Bell County, Texas on March 28, 1936 to Richard Leo and Winnie Belle (Curb) Jackson. Wayne attended school in Belton and graduated from Belton High School in 1954. After graduation, he attended Austin Barber College and went to work for his brother Earnest Jackson at Jackson Barber Shop. The opportunity to purchase his own shop across the street arose and he finished his career of 47 years at Belton Barber Shop, retiring at the age of 65 in 2001.
Mr. Jackson married Joyce Lanell “Nell” Windsor on August 7, 1955 at Florence Methodist Church in Florence and they were married for almost 71 years before he passed away. They were active members of Miller Heights Baptist Church since 1955 where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and in whatever capacity he was needed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Delmer and Earnest Jackson, sisters, Opal Brooks and Manervia Herrington; daughter Donna Jean Jackson and grandson Heath Jackson.
Survivors include his wife Nell Jackson of Temple, daughters Peggy Jackson and husband Beauford, Betty Miller and husband Richard, son, Terry Jackson and wife Dana; five grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 5:30 to 7:30PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Miller Heights Baptist Church Mission’s fund.
